    Position

The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America (SHI NA) seeks a creative, highly organized, and editorially strong Digital Production Manager to lead the production of our flagship podcast, Identity/Crisis, and to produce and manage a growing portfolio of digital media products across audio and video.

This role is central to the Institute’s digital storytelling efforts and is responsible for shepherding projects from concept through release, maintaining high editorial and production standards, and supporting the smooth, reliable operation of the Hartman studio. The position is based in New York and reports to the Vice President of Communications and Creative.

    Key Responsibilities

    Podcast and Digital Product Production

    • Serve as lead producer for Identity/Crisis, overseeing the full production lifecycle from editorial planning and recording through post-production, quality control, and release
    • Produce additional digital products, including podcasts, limited series, audio promos, video content, and other editorial digital initiatives
    • Work closely with hosts, scholars, editors, sound designers, video editors, and external vendors to shape compelling, mission-aligned content
    • Develop clear, compelling titles and descriptions for podcast and video products that support editorial goals, audience engagement, and distribution

    Editorial and Story Development

    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop concepts and formats for new and existing digital products
    • Write and edit scripts, outlines, and run-of-show documents to strengthen narrative coherence and audience engagement
    • Identify strong moments for promotion and downstream use across marketing and social channels

    Studio and Production Operations

    • Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the Hartman studio, including recording workflows, technical readiness, and coordination across productions
    • Manage recording logistics for in-studio, remote, and hybrid sessions, including scheduling, guest preparation, and technical setup
    • Provide technical assistance to staff and faculty as needed for recordings and digital production
    • Maintain organized production systems for assets, documentation, and workflows

    Project Management and Collaboration

    • Manage production schedules, deadlines, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects
    • Coordinate internal teams and external contractors to ensure projects stay on track and within scope
    • Communicate clearly and proactively with stakeholders about timelines, needs, and decisions
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of production standards and best practices

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of combined experience producing podcasts, audio, video, or other digital media products, with demonstrated editorial and production leadership
    • Strong storytelling instincts and editorial judgment, with the ability to shape complex ideas into engaging digital content
    • Experience managing recording sessions and working directly with hosts, scholars, or talent
    • Experience with studio management and equipment, including soundboards, PTZ cameras and controls, cinema cameras (especially Canon), live production and streaming software (such as Wirecast), and studio lighting
    • Fluency with audio and video production tools and workflows, including platforms such as Descript, Reaper, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci, or comparable tools
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to give clear, constructive feedback
    • Alignment with the mission and values of the Shalom Hartman Institute and comfort working in a mission-driven intellectual environment
    • Ability to work well and fast under tight deadlines, occasionally outside of office hours
    • BA / BS or equivalent

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience producing intellectually rigorous or narrative-driven podcasts
    • Familiarity with Jewish thought, culture, or communal discourse
    • Experience working with remote contributors and distributed teams
    • Comfort supporting studio operations and technical workflows
