    About Animal Outlook:

Animal Outlook is a national nonprofit animal protection organization dedicated to disrupting animal agribusiness and building a better tomorrow for all animals. Through strategic undercover investigations, legal advocacy, and corporate engagement, we work to expose cruelty and create systemic change for farmed animals.

    The Opportunity:

We're looking for a talented communications professional to manage and grow the voice of our organization across all owned channels. In this leadership role, you'll shape how Animal Outlook communicates our groundbreaking investigations, legal victories, and corporate campaigns through our digital platforms, email communications, and other direct channels. You'll lead a small team and design messaging strategies that drive real change for animals. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, requiring both creative vision and analytical rigor to amplify our mission and maximize our impact.

    What You'll Do:

    Strategic Communications and Brand Management

You'll design, manage, and execute Animal Outlook's messaging across all platforms—from communications to donors and supporters to the general public through our owned channels. Working closely with the Executive Director, you'll participate in strategic planning discussions and ensure adherence to our brand standards manual. Through A/B testing and social science-based messaging strategies, you'll apply research on attitude and behavior change to make our communications more effective.

Owned Channel Management and Content Creation

You'll oversee all owned communications channels, continuously improving their effectiveness. This includes optimizing email content to improve open rates and engagement, growing the reach of our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn), and ensuring our website delivers an excellent user experience. You'll produce and edit written materials for investigations releases, legal updates, campaigns, blogs, and web content, ensuring all external communications adhere to Animal Outlook's branding guide.

    Team Leadership and Executive Support

You'll supervise the Communications and Development Associate and manage relationships with communications contractors and consultants. You'll assist the Executive Director with earned media-related content. You'll also track media coverage, and ensure alignment across departments through regular meetings with stakeholders.

    What We're Looking For

    • 3-7 years of experience in strategic communications, digital communications, or related fields
    • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences and purposes
    • Some experience managing or mentoring others
    • Demonstrated success in growing digital audiences and optimizing content performance across multiple channels
    • Strategic thinking abilities with experience developing and implementing communications strategies
    • Familiarity with social media tools and platforms
    • Familiarity with digital communications tools and analytics
    • Ability to translate complex information into accessible, engaging content
    • Experience with A/B testing and data-driven decision making
    • Deep commitment to Animal Outlook's mission and the protection of farmed animals

    Preferred:

    • Experience in nonprofit communications or advocacy organizations, particularly those focused on animal protection, environmental issues, or social justice
    • Familiarity with Mailchimp (or similar email marketing systems)
    • Familiarity with WordPress (or similar website systems)
    • Familiarity with Canva (or similar design systems)
    • Experience with brand development and implementing brand standards
    • Familiarity with the animal agriculture industry and animal protection issues
    • Experience conducting strategic assessments
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments
    • Good judgment in assessing communications opportunities
    • Creative approach to storytelling that breaks through the noise

Note: Experience with earned media, press, or journalists is not required for this role.

    What We Offer

Animal Outlook provides a supportive, mission-driven work environment where you can make a real difference for animals. Benefits include remote work flexibility, flexible schedule, comprehensive health benefits, retirement plan, and generous paid time off. You'll join a passionate team committed to creating systemic change and have the opportunity to shape the narrative around one of the most important social justice issues of our time.
