    At Community Legal Aid SoCal, we advocate for justice, housing stability, and dignity for the communities we serve across Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The Housing Supervising Attorney will supervise a team of staff attorneys and paralegals located in Los Angeles County. The team provides a full range of housing legal services and primarily focuses on unlawful detainer matters. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Directing Attorney for Client Services and is based in the Compton or Norwalk office.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead & supervise a team of attorneys and paralegals across LA County (primarily Compton/Norwalk, with flexibility to support other offices.
    • Oversee housing litigation, including trials, discovery, and full representation in eviction defense.
    • Train and mentor staff, provide monthly case reviews, co-counsel cases, and support professional development.
    • Coordinate with external partners like Stay Housed LA and the Right to Counsel Coalition.
    • Develop workflows for delivering legal services, set team priorities, and manage grant deliverables.
    • Deliver Know-Your-Rights presentations and lead outreach efforts.
    • Drive systemic impact through policy advocacy and community collaboration with partner community-based organizations.
    • Maintain a limited caseload to stay connected to the work and clients.
    • Participate in recruitment efforts, interviews, and other aspects of the hiring process within CLA SoCal.
    • Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the organization.

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Juris Doctor & Licensed California attorney in good standing.

    Qualifications:

    • 5+ years of legal experience with a strong background in Housing Law and tenant representation.
    • Experience in supervising, mentoring, and managing a team.
    • Deep knowledge of unlawful detainer litigation, subsidized housing, and tenant protections.
    • Experience in the litigation process including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and representing tenants at bench and jury trials.
    • Excellent communication, attention to detail, organization, and leadership skills.
    • Trauma-informed and empathetic driven mindset.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, LegalServer, and form generation tools like Lawyaw.
    • Valid driver’s license or other reliable transportation (travel required).
    • Bilingual – Preferred.
