    Description

    The Maryland Environmental Justice Working Group is seeking a facilitation coordinator to help deepen and expand a coalition of multiple organizations working to advance climate and environmental justice policies and initiatives across Maryland. The facilitation coordinator will help to create a Maryland climate justice platform that intersects with issues of race, climate, energy, the economy, and civic engagement. The facilitation coordinator will be responsible for managing cross-functional table relationships, coordinating table campaigns, and helping the coalition stay organized and focused on achieving its long-term goals.

    The facilitation coordinator would be expected to work on the following priorities:

    • Facilitate the design of the Maryland Grassroots Environmental Justice Working Group's state-level platform and any campaign strategies determined by the Working Group.
    • Build on the draft strategic plan, facilitate the design of short-, medium-, and long-term goals for the MD Grassroots EJ working group.
    • Facilitate the design of a communications and branding strategy, along with educational materials, for the working group.
    • Engage in meetings with the EJ working group to ensure a smooth flow of information across the coalition.
    • Facilitate communication and provide progress checks across different MD Climate Equity table priorities and goals.
    • Nurture the practice of collective governance, decision-making, and shared power-building amongst coalition partners.
    • Design, facilitate, and document coalition meetings.
    • Engage in one-on-one check-ins with each table organizational member.
    • Fundraise for table-wide initiatives: Write and/or Co-Write grant proposals and reports.
    • Represent the MD EJ Working Group in progressive movements and government spaces to further understand the statewide, regional, and national context of the MD EJ Working Group's work.
    • Plan table events such as lobby nights, educational forums for legislators and the general public, and both statewide and county-specific legislative initiatives.
    • Identify when table partners would benefit from engaging in any movement spaces they are not currently participating in.
    • Co-create political education with table members to provide cross-organization learning opportunities.
    • Foster the development of trust, honesty, communication, and a culture of equity amongst coalition members.
    • Develop table-wide written materials on behalf of the table with input from organizational members (e.g., written testimony, sign-on letters)

    Qualifications:

    • At least 5 years of experience within social justice, environmental, and/or climate ecosystems
    • Extensive knowledge of the environmental/climate ecosystem in Maryland
    • Clear dedication to climate, environmental, racial, and economic justice;
    • Extensive lived-experience in frontline communities, communities of color, and/or low-income communities;
    • Demonstrates ability to facilitate calls, Zoom meetings, and, if/when possible, in-person

    gatherings;

    • Possesses a continuous learning mindset, able to share constructive feedback amongst team members, and highly adaptable
    • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and sensitivity in handling confidential matters
    • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, capable of leading cross-functional teams and managing complex objectives
    • Expert, detail-oriented, and proactive project management skills, including managing multiple work streams concurrently
    • Team player with ability and willingness both to complete and to oversee administrative tasks in support of team goals
    • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn how to manage different perspectives and ideas to foster collective decision-making efforts
    • Demonstrated ability to manage logistics and operations of planning meetings;
    • Experience in managing work independently

    Term: This is a 10-month contract position with total monthly compensation up to $6,500, commensurate with experience. The estimated start date would be July 1st.
