    Description

    About Inkwell Montessori

Inkwell Montessori is a small, bilingual Montessori school opening in Somerville, MA, this September. We are building an authentic Children’s House for ages 2.9 to 6, grounded in a carefully prepared environment, uninterrupted work cycles, and deep respect for the child. Our program includes Spanish immersion, strong foundations in literacy, daily outdoor time, and opportunities to explore screen-free robotics and early coding materials.

Inkwell is intentionally small by design. This allows for focus, consistency, and meaningful relationships between children, adults, and families.

    About the Role

Inkwell Montessori is seeking a full-time Lead Guide to lead our Primary classroom and serve as a central figure in the life of the school. This is a founding role with strong classroom autonomy and real ownership over the environment.

This position is designed for someone who wants to do more than lead a classroom. There is a clear pathway to grow into a Head of School role within approximately three years, with increased leadership responsibility and compensation. Spanish-English bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead a mixed-age Montessori Primary classroom (ages 2.9–6) with fidelity to Montessori principles
    • Prepare and maintain a thoughtful, orderly, and engaging classroom environment
    • Guide children through uninterrupted work cycles that support independence, concentration, and mastery
    • Support children’s social, emotional, and academic development
    • Collaborate with the founder on classroom setup, materials, and program implementation
    • Communicate regularly and thoughtfully with families
    • Support licensing and documentation needed for state approval
    • Contribute to building a strong, respectful, and consistent school culture

    Qualifications

    • Montessori Primary credential (AMS, AMI, or MACTE-accredited program) required
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading a Montessori Primary (Children’s House) classroom required
    • Must meet, or be eligible to meet, Massachusetts early childhood program leadership requirements (support provided as needed)
    • Strong understanding of authentic Montessori practice
    • Calm, grounded classroom presence and strong observation skills
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a small team
    • Spanish-English bilingual ability strongly preferred
