Description
Job Description: English as a Second Language Instructor. Successful candidates will be able and willing to implement a task-based approach that helps prepare students to use English effectively in their daily lives.
Duration: 11 weeks per cycle, 3 cycles per year (next cycle begins at the end of August)
Locations: North or South Philadelphia PA
Instructional Hours: 6-8 PM on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays (North Philly location)
OR
5:30pm-7:30pm on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays (South Philly location)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. ESL certification or Master's degree preferred.
- Experience teaching ESL required. Knowledge of adult education theory and practice preferred.
- Basic computer literacy required. Knowledge of Google Suite preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the program to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets.
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies.
- Differentiate and scaffold instruction to assist all students in developing their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in the target language.
- Generate and administer assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student attendance, student progress and evidence of growth.
- Provide a supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and agency.
Salary: $30/hr (4 hours of instruction + 1 hour of paid prep time per class per week)
All successful applicants must undergo background checks.
All classes meet in-person. This is not a remote or hybrid-eligible position.
