    ABOUT LEGACY LA

    Founded in Ramona Gardens, Legacy LA empowers youth and families in Boyle Heights and surrounding neighborhoods to break systemic cycles of multigenerational poverty and trauma through leadership, healing, and community-driven change to build resilient and equitable neighborhoods.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Intergenerational Community Organizer will work alongside our Community Organizer (Parents) in launching the pilot Intergenerational Leadership Academy. This role will build the capacity of youth, parents, and frontline residents to understand environmental justice issues, identify incompatible land uses, envision healthier communities, and engage decision-makers to achieve systemic change. The Organizer will play a key role in developing resident leadership, advancing campaigns, and ensuring community voices influence environmental policies and green infrastructure investments.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Organizing & Campaigns

    • Organize around local environmental justice and health issues including but not limited to warehouses, freeways, rail yards, and other polluters.
    • Develop and implement campaign plans, strategy, outreach, and leadership development in partnership with staff and residents.
    • Mobilize youth and residents to community events, town halls, and meetings with decision-making bodies (e.g., South Coast AQMD, Metro, LA City & County).

    Leadership Development & Curriculum

    • Support the design and facilitation of bilingual curriculum for the Intergenerational Leadership Academy.
    • Equip residents with tools to analyze environmental harms, advocate for solutions, and engage in policymaking.
    • Mentor youth and parents to step into leadership roles, facilitate workshops, and co-lead community engagement efforts.

    Community Engagement

    • Build relationships with community groups, coalitions, and stakeholders to strengthen environmental justice networks.
    • Create inclusive spaces for residents to “Dream Big” and shape solutions for healthy neighborhoods.
    • Represent Legacy LA in coalitions, advocacy spaces, and environmental justice campaigns.

    Communications & Administration

    • Produce flyers, social media content, and outreach materials to promote campaigns and community events.
    • Maintain accurate data, sign-in sheets, and records of resident engagement.
    • Ensure timely distribution of stipends and completion of required forms for participants.
    • These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive, and others will be assigned as necessary to support evolving business priorities.

    Experience & Qualifications

    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in community organizing, youth development, or advocacy with frontline communities.
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and environmental justice.
    • Strong facilitation, public speaking, and community engagement skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex issues into accessible language.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects.
    • Collaborative and adaptable, able to work across diverse cultural and linguistic communities.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Preferred: Background in ethnic studies, social sciences, or related fields.
    • Required: Bilingual in English and Spanish

    Full-time, Non- Exempt, At-Will

    Salary Range: $21-23/ hour
