    amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is seeking a dynamic and strategic Manager of Social Media.

    amfAR is dedicated to ending the global AIDS epidemic through innovative research. With the freedom and flexibility to respond quickly to emerging areas of scientific promise, amfAR plays a catalytic role in accelerating the pace of HIV/AIDS research and achieving real breakthroughs. amfAR-funded research has increased our understanding of HIV and has helped lay the groundwork for major advances in the study and treatment of HIV/AIDS. Since 1985, amfAR has raised nearly $950 million in support of its programs and has awarded more than 3,800 grants to research teams worldwide.

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

    The Manager of Social Media will lead the execution and growth of amfAR’s social media presence, prioritizing Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube (while also being proficient in Facebook and X). Reporting to the Director of Integrated Marketing, this role will develop and produce compelling digital storytelling that highlights amfAR’s scientific leadership, global impact, and philanthropic community. This hands-on content role will not only shape strategy, but will also create original content, including video, photography, and written posts, as well as capture real-time moments that bring amfAR’s mission to life online.

    A key part of this role will be covering amfAR’s high-profile fundraising events and galas, producing dynamic social content that highlights the impact and community behind these gatherings.

    The ideal candidate is adept at identifying trending stories and cultural moments, and who can use social media to translate mission-driven work into content that informs, inspires, and mobilizes audiences.

    DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Plan, create, edit, and schedule organic and sponsored social media content ensuring alignment with voice, brand, and organization initiatives.

    Develop and maintain integrated social media content calendar aligned with marketing campaigns, research announcements, special events, and advocacy initiatives.

    Create social media strategy for amfAR’s portfolio of domestic and international fundraising events and galas, including leading development of platform specific coverage live on-site before, during, and after events (behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and highlight moments) in collaboration with Media Relations team.

    Liaise with sponsors and partners to develop unique content that aligns with amfAR’s mission and exposes new audiences to the organization.

    Work interdepartmentally among Public Information, Public Policy and Research teams to highlight amfAR’s grantees and supporters, translating complex research and policy topics into accessible, engaging digital content.

    Partner with Philanthropy team and find new ways for utilizing social media for fundraising, and building donor loyalty.

    Manage social listening and engage in organization-related online conversations; respond to social media inquiries in a timely and courteous fashion.

    Collaborate with the media relations team to build and foster relationships with influencers and creators, developing platform-specific content that supports brand campaigns, events and overall organizational goals.

    Monitor social media industry trends, tools, and applications and recommend actions and next steps.

    Create quantitative and qualitative analysis reports of social media content performance for the management team and Board of Trustees.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 5-7 years of social media management experience with a brand, nonprofit organization, media company, or digital agency and a proven history of growing social audiences
    • Proficiency in creating and producing niche-specific content for social media platforms (especially with TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
    • Technical knowledge and understanding of Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn Business Manager, and TikTok Ads Manager
    • Familiarity with social media management and listening platforms such as Sprout Social and Meltwater to support content planning, publishing, audience engagement, and performance analytics
    • BA in communications, marketing or a related field preferred
    • Experience with global health media and knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues and policies preferred, but not required
    • Excellent creative writing and oral communication skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms
    • Basic video editing capabilities required
    • Proficiency with common computer office applications
    • Strong team collaboration and interpersonal skills
    • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-moving environment
    • Flexibility to work extended hours and travel both domestically and internationally
