    Description

Help Build Trust in Elections Across North Carolina

    The Opportunity

As the North Carolina Partnerships & Field Organizer, you'll help shape and execute a statewide effort to connect citizens directly with election administrators, strengthen local civic partnerships, and elevate respected community leaders who can help build confidence in our democratic institutions.

You'll serve as PTE's on-the-ground representative in North Carolina, working closely with election officials, civic organizations, veterans groups, community leaders, and other trusted messengers across the state.

This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to help shape strategy in North Carolina. The ideal candidate is someone who knows how to build relationships, navigate diverse communities, and turn ideas into action.

About the Principles for Trusted Elections

The Principles for Trusted Elections (PTE) is a growing national movement working to strengthen confidence in American elections by bringing together trusted voices across political, geographic, and civic divides.

Developed in collaboration with The Carter Center and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, PTE engages civic leaders, election officials, veterans, faith leaders, community organizations, and everyday citizens around a simple idea: democracy works best when people understand, participate in, and trust the electoral process.

In 2026, North Carolina is one of our most important states. We're investing deeply in building relationships, creating meaningful public engagement opportunities, and elevating trusted local voices. We're looking for a connector, organizer, and relationship-builder to help lead that work.

    What You'll Do

Build Civic Partnerships Across North Carolina

    • Develop and strengthen relationships with civic organizations, community groups, election officials, and local leaders
    • Serve as a key connector between PTE and its growing statewide partner network
    • Identify new opportunities for collaboration and local engagement
    • Represent PTE at meetings, events, and community gatherings
    • Help cultivate a durable network of trusted local partners who can advance the initiative's goals

    Lead Election Center Tours

Help organize and deliver a series of behind-the-scenes election center tours that give North Carolinians a firsthand look at how elections are administered.

    • Coordinate logistics and scheduling with county election officials
    • Recruit participants and manage outreach
    • Work with partner organizations to mobilize attendees
    • Help ensure meaningful, engaging experiences for diverse audiences, including veterans, young voters, rural and urban residents, and community leaders
    • Support 3 - 4 stakeholder-focused tours across the state

Help Bring Democracy Day to Life

    • Support planning and execution of local Democracy Day events
    • Coordinate partners, logistics, outreach, and participant engagement
    • Help create opportunities for civic dialogue, public education, and community participation
    • Work alongside local organizations to maximize attendance and impact

    Recruit Trusted Local Voices

Where relationships and networks allow, help identify and engage respected validators who can amplify the initiative.

    Examples may include:

    • Former elected officials
    • Election administrators
    • Veterans
    • Business and civic leaders
    • Faith and community leaders

These individuals may be invited to sign the Principles, participate in media opportunities, record short videos, contribute op-eds, or support local events.

    Who You Are:

    • Based in North Carolina
    • Comfortable building relationships with people from different backgrounds, perspectives, and political viewpoints
    • Organized, proactive, and highly self-directed
    • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment
    • Passionate about civic engagement and democratic participation
    • Strong communicator who enjoys connecting people and creating opportunities for collaboration
    • Excited by the opportunity to help build something meaningful and lasting

    Experience We Value:

    • Field organizing
    • Community engagement
    • Coalition building
    • Civic or nonprofit work
    • Political or advocacy campaigns
    • Public affairs or stakeholder engagement

    Bonus Points If You Have:

    • Existing relationships in North Carolina's civic, elections, government, nonprofit, or political communities
    • Familiarity with election administration, voter engagement, or democracy-focused work
    • Experience working across ideological or partisan differences
    • A strong network that can help open doors and build partnerships quickly

    Travel Expectations:

    • Some travel throughout North Carolina is required (approximately 20%)
    • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation and a clean driving record

    Why This Role Matters:

At a time when trust in institutions is under pressure, North Carolina has an opportunity to demonstrate what civic engagement and democratic participation can look like at their best.

You'll help create experiences that bring people closer to the election process, strengthen relationships between communities and election officials, and elevate trusted voices across the state.

This is a chance to help build a cross-partisan movement focused on transparency, trust, and democratic participation - while working alongside some of the country's leading organizations and practitioners in the democracy space.

If you're someone who enjoys building relationships, connecting communities, and contributing to something larger than yourself, we'd love to hear from you!

PTE is a project of Team Democracy, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization committed to bridging political divides and promoting trust in democratic institutions.
