    Description

BK ROT is a food waste hauling and composting service powered by youth and young adults who are employed to collect food waste by bike and maintain compost processing sites. All organics hauling is done fossil fuel free, using bicycles and e-bikes (microhauling). The service operates within North Brooklyn and works to increase composting at the neighborhood level. We provide locally sourced and produced compost within our community in support of food justice and soil building projects.

We are seeking a Microhauling Manager to support the work of the Executive Director and BK ROT’s team. We are looking for an individual who is efficient and comfortable working independently, with stellar communication skills. The capacity to build and maintain systems used across organizational operations is essential to this position. The ideal candidate for this job is deeply enthusiastic and knowledgeable about bikes, is resourceful, takes initiative, is a good problem solver, is highly organized, and stays accountable to their work.

This position requires some in-person time on-site in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and is 32 hours per week, aligned with scheduled microhauling and compost distribution days (Sunday-Thursday).

We are looking to hire someone as soon as possible. We will begin virtual interviews as resumes come in, and the position will be filled once we identify the right candidate. To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to info@bkrot.org with the subject line: NAME + BK ROT Microhauling Manager Application. As an environmental justice organization, Brooklyn residents who are BIPOC, LGTBQIA+, and women are strongly encouraged to apply.
