About Small Things
“We can do no great things, only small things with great love.” (Mother Teresa)
Our vision: Stability opens doors.
Our mission: Small Things provides targeted access to nutritious food, workforce development, and services to advance family stability in high-poverty neighborhoods.
Our history: Small Things became a 501(c)(3) during the 2020 pandemic, providing millions of meals across Philadelphia from our Roxborough warehouse with help from thousands of volunteer moments. Today, three (soon to be four) Small Things Markets offer dignified, full-choice shopping in low-stability neighborhoods. Together with Philabundance and other major food banks, we also stock more than 50 local pantries across the region.
Our core values
- Collaboration: We work through strong, lasting partnerships rooted in trust.
- Dignity: Every individual deserves to be treated with respect, empathy, and love.
- Integrity: We do what we say we will do.
- Impact: We identify and track outcomes to ensure positive impact in communities.
- Compassion: We move toward people regardless of circumstance.
About the role

You’ll plan and order inventory, coordinate deliveries and stocking, support market setup and distribution, supervise staff and volunteers onsite, and maintain accurate guest and food-distribution records.

- Support opening and closing procedures, including setup, cleanup, and storage of equipment and supplies.
- Prepare for scheduled distributions by organizing food, supplies, guest-flow areas, and staff and volunteer assignments.
- Coordinate onsite work so guests can navigate the market and get help with grocery selection as needed.
- Monitor inventory during distribution and assess needs for the next warehouse order.
- Help reset and clean the market after distribution, with food, equipment, and supplies stored appropriately.

- Keep accurate records of food received, ordered, distributed, wasted, or composted using designated tracking tools and spreadsheets.
Staff and volunteer coordination
