    Description

    The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) seeks a Director of Major Gifts who will join our Advancement team. This role will play a pivotal role in growing the financial strength of the OEC, the OEC’s affiliated 501 (c) (4) organization, the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund (AF), and other affiliated entities.

    The Director of Major Gifts will increase fundraising revenue at a major scale for our Collective by leveraging data to develop innovative donor experiences and strategies, and implementing sustainable, high-yield fundraising programs. You will be joining a team that includes the Vice President of Advancement, Grants Director, Membership Engagement Manager, and will report to this team’s Managing Director of Individual Giving.

    Job Responsibilities

    As the Director of Major Gifts, your responsibilities will include:

    • Donor Portfolio Management
    • Developing and executing major donors giving strategies for mid-level and major donors, including corporate prospects who are politically compelled.
    • Donor Engagement & Stewardship
    • Building and maintaining strong relationships with donors through personalized communications and stewardship plans.
    • Utilizing effective communication strategies and innovative engagement ideas to ensure donors understand the impact of their giving.
    • Strategic Collaboration
    • Serving as a point person for individual donor fundraising initiatives.
    • Elevating the collective impact of the Ohio Environmental Council, the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund, and other related entities.
    • Acquisition & Growth
    • Leading vision meetings, “friendraisers”, and political fundraising events to introduce new prospects to the OEC andOEC Action Fund.
    • Identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new and existing donor prospects through research, advanced data analysis, and direct outreach to secure new donors.
    • Stewarding OEC Action Fund board members and volunteer fundraisers to cultivate donor networks.
    • Executing new tactics from the C4/political fundraising to engage audiences aligned with environmental and political interests.
    • Event Management
    • Designing and executing C4 fundraising events.

    Qualifications

    Key qualifications

    • You have at least 8 years of relevant experience in fundraising.
    • You have a proven track record of achieving results with major donors and/or political campaign fundraising.
    • You have experience cultivating donor relationships through developing and executing donor moves management strategy
    • You have demonstrable event planning and project management experience and have experience managing multiple projects at once while delivering quality results.
    • You have effective written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
    • You have demonstrable proficiency with fundraising databases and technology.
    • You have effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple projects independently.
    • You have experience finding effective solutions to problems.
    • You have the ability to work collaboratively or independently and fill gaps when needed.
    • You approach your work with a flexible, positive attitude, and the spirit of “yes”.
    • You have the ability to adapt quickly to change.
    • You share our commitment to ensuring an inclusive organization that is representative of all Ohioans.

    Preferred qualifications

    • You have experience working with nonprofit and government organizations or advocacy groups.
    • You have a sophisticated understanding of how to use data for donor qualification and strategy.
    • You have working knowledge of 501(c4) and political fundraising regulations
    • You have demonstrated a commitment to continued professional growth and development.
    • You have the ability to plan, track, and manage a budget successfully.
    • You can travel within the state, and available for occasional overnight or out-of-state travel for meetings and conferences.

    Compensation and benefits

    The salary range for this position is $64,000 – $71,000 and is within the bargaining unit represented by OEC Workers United. Excellent benefits include employer-paid health, vision, dental, and life insurance; flexible and dependent care spending account; generous paid time off; paid parental leave; and employer-matched retirement fund.

    Additional Details

    The OEC’s headquarters is in Columbus. The location of the Director of Major Gifts is preferred in Columbus, but potentially flexible within the State of Ohio. Some travel will also be required, including occasional overnight or out-of-state travel for conferences and meetings with partners, donors, etc.
