    Description

    Covello Older Adult Center – Full‑time • On‑site • East Harlem, NYC

Be the warm, welcoming face of a community that celebrates and supports older adults every day.

The Carter Burden Network (CBN) promotes the well‑being of adults aged 60+ through programs in health and wellness, arts and culture, nutrition, social services, and community engagement. At our Covello Older Adult Center in East Harlem, the Receptionist plays a vital role in creating a safe, friendly, and accessible environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

This is a great entry‑level opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people, thrives in a community setting, and wants to build administrative and customer‑service skills while making a meaningful impact.

    What You’ll Do

As the first point of contact for participants, staff, and visitors, you will help keep the center running smoothly by:

    • Greeting older adults, visitors, and staff with warmth and professionalism
    • Answering phones, responding to inquiries, and relaying messages
    • Managing the lobby to ensure it stays organized, welcoming, and safe
    • Scanning participants for congregate breakfast and lunch
    • Assisting older adults with building access, including the wheelchair lift or stairs
    • Creating flyers, updating activity boards, and maintaining monthly statistics
    • Supporting staff with clerical tasks like photocopying, filing, and data entry
    • Updating digital signage, entering VIVE unit data, and assisting with small research tasks
    • Keeping bulletin boards and communication materials current and accurate
    • Operating the intercom system and helping coordinate daily activities

You’ll be part of a two‑person front desk team, ensuring consistent coverage and smooth operations throughout the day.

    Who You Are

You’re someone who brings heart, patience, and professionalism to every interaction. You value community, enjoy helping older adults, and take pride in keeping things organized.

You embody CBN’s core values: Responsibility, Boldness, Heart, Respect, and Community.

    What You Bring

    • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (required)
    • Strong communication and customer‑service skills
    • Comfort working in a busy, people‑centered environment
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams)
    • Ability to stay organized, multitask, and maintain attention to detail
    • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
    • Prior experience in customer service, office administration, or community‑based work (preferred)
    • Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend shifts with advance notice

    Work Environment

This role is based in a lively, four‑story older adult center in East Harlem. You’ll spend time at the front desk, moving throughout the building as needed, and occasionally assisting participants with mobility devices. Light lifting (10–15 lbs) may be required.

    Schedule & Compensation

    • Full‑time, 35 hours/week
    • Operating hours between 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
    • Hourly rate: $16.88–$18.09 (based on experience and internal equity)
    • Generous benefits, including:
    • Multiple health and dental plan options (some 100% employer‑paid)
    • Accrue up to 3 weeks vacation, 4 personal days, 10 sick days, and paid holidays
