About FIRST Global
FIRST Global is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that organizes the annual FIRST Global Challenge — an Olympics-style international robotics competition involving nearly every nation on Earth. Our mission is to ignite a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among the more than two billion young people worldwide. Each year, student athletes from participating countries gather to compete, collaborate, and build relationships across every boundary. The FIRST Global Challenge is the most internationally inclusive youth robotics competition in the world.
Position Overview
The Alumni and Educational Outreach Coordinator is responsible for building and sustaining FIRST Global’s alumni network by developing the infrastructure, community, and engagement programs that keep FIRST Global participants connected to the organization and to each other long after competition ends. This role is the primary owner of alumni engagement across all phases: database architecture, CRM development, community programming, and impact measurement.
University partnerships and scholarship resource development are secondary responsibilities of this role, supporting the broader goal of creating meaningful pathways for FIRST Global’s alumni and current participants into higher education and professional life.
This is an early-career position for someone who is organized, self-directed, and motivated by mission-driven work at a global scale. The right candidate brings experience with community outreach or organizing, CRM or database management, and cross-cultural communication — and is comfortable working independently in a remote environment with a globally distributed team.
Primary Responsibilities
Alumni Network Development and Management
This role owns the ongoing management of the FIRST Global Alumni Network, including its infrastructure, community platforms, and engagement programming. Key responsibilities include:
- CRM Development and Management
- Lead the build-out and day-to-day management of the FIRST Global alumni CRM, currently planned on Salesforce or equivalent platform, with integration into community platforms including Discord
- Work within a defined vision and scope set by organizational leadership to implement the CRM, advise on what is technically feasible within the chosen platform, and contribute ideas for improving the user experience
- Design and maintain data architecture that captures alumni registration at point of entry and tracks key information over time, including country of participation, years active, current institution or employer, and field of work
- Establish data collection and update workflows so the database remains accurate as alumni progress through education and careers
- Build and manage alumni-facing content and benefits within the CRM to drive ongoing engagement and retention
- Community Infrastructure and Outreach
- Manage existing FIRST Global alumni communities on LinkedIn and other platforms, growing membership and fostering active engagement
- Work with other FIRST Global departments to conduct outreach to alumni through mentor networks, country delegations, and volunteer communities to register and re-engage the existing alumni base
- Identify and cultivate alumni liaisons within countries to help distribute outreach and registration work at a local level — this is grassroots work requiring persistence, cross-cultural sensitivity, and comfort with informal communication channels
- Support the formal launch of the FIRST Global Alumni Network
- Engagement Programming
- Plan and execute an annual virtual alumni touchpoint event, coordinated around the FIRST Global Challenge
- Re-engage alumni as volunteers, mentors, Global STEM Corps Advisor Team members, and FIRST Global advocates in their country
- Connect alumni with relevant scholarship opportunities, professional and career development resources, and organizational programming
- Impact Measurement and Storytelling
- Design and administer an annual alumni survey; analyze results and translate findings into a clear impact report or dashboard for use with donors, partners, and leadership
- Identify and document compelling alumni stories for use in fundraising, communications, and partner outreach
- Maintain ongoing alumni outcome tracking within the CRM to demonstrate program impact over time
University Partnerships and Scholarship Resources
Secondary to alumni network development, this role supports FIRST Global’s relationships with higher education institutions and maintains scholarship resources available to alumni and current participants.
- Manage day-to-day outreach with prospective university partners; respond to inquiries from prospective university partners and conduct onboarding as needed
- Identify and cultivate new university partners interested in FIRST Global’s global STEM talent pipeline, with particular attention to institutions offering international scholarships or recruitment programs
- Maintain and update a scholarship resource database and corresponding web page on the FIRST Global website; communicate relevant opportunities to students and alumni
- Support university exhibition and recruitment activity at the annual FIRST Global Challenge as appropriate
- Track scholarship recipients and outcomes over time as part of the broader alumni impact measurement framework
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or university equivalent required; must be authorized to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available)
- Demonstrated experience building or managing a CRM, alumni database, or community platform from an early or foundational stage; Salesforce experience strongly preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in alumni engagement, community outreach, nonprofit programming, international programs, or a related field
- Experience with survey design, data collection, and basic data analysis; ability to translate findings into a clear written summary or report
- Experience in community outreach, coalition building, or organizing — including working with distributed, informal, or volunteer-driven networks
- Strong cross-cultural communication skills and demonstrated cultural sensitivity; ability to work effectively across significant differences in context, language, and communication style
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; able to write clearly for a range of audiences
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, and prioritize effectively without close supervision
- Flexibility to accommodate non-standard hours as needed, including early morning and evening calls across global time zones
Preferred
- Fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Arabic strongly preferred given FIRST Global’s participating country base
- Familiarity with Discord or similar community platforms, including administration and community management
- Background in or familiarity with STEM fields
- Experience with FIRST Global or other international youth organizations
Additional Information
This role involves a significant amount of independent relationship-building, outreach, and community development work. While direction and vision are provided by organizational leadership, the day-to-day work requires initiative, creativity, and comfort with ambiguity — particularly in the early stages of building out the alumni network infrastructure.
This is a remote position. The annual FIRST Global Challenge requires in-person attendance and may involve extended days and non-standard hours during the event period. Some travel may be required for partnership development or other organizational activities.
Benefits
Position comes with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401k plan with employer match, and generous paid vacation and sick time.
Level of Language Proficiency
Native or bilingual fluency in English is required.
Fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Arabic strongly preferred.
