    Description

    The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is seeking an Information Technology (IT) Specialist in our Charlottesville, VA office. This individual will join our Information Technology team and report to our Information Technology Associate. The IT Specialist will ensure the efficient operation of the full range of applications, software, and hardware used across the organization. In addition to applying sound technical skills, the IT Specialist plays an important user-facing support role requiring adept communication skills, organization, and planning to provide excellent customer service.     SELC has a hybrid work model that offers employees flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. This is a full-time and non-exempt position, with a 2-year term limit.

    Employment is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Ability to resolve connectivity issues with end users using Microsoft 365 product knowledge and a basic technical competence in troubleshooting.
    • Provides deskside support in our Charlottesville office as needed and remotely to our other offices.
    • Maintains PC refresh schedules for staff in all offices.
    • Deploys hardware to regional offices for new hires in coordination with other IT staff.
    • Serves as the SELC initial point of contact for help desk tickets transferred from our managed services provider.
    • Escalates internal tickets to the appropriate IT colleagues as needed.
    • Provides additional basic end-user training on Microsoft applications as needed.
    • Installs and configures workstation components to ensure usability.
    • Troubleshoots hardware and software issues on Windows and Mac platforms.
    • Establishes and maintains good relationships with all colleagues with an emphasis on providing exceptional customer service.
    • Available for occasional overnight travel.
    • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
    • Other duties as assigned by management.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in the following areas: Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Administration.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in IT support engaging with and supporting end users.
    • Ability to clearly, empathetically, and professionally communicate with end users to understand their needs.
    • Demonstrated experience configuring workstations in an enterprise environment.
    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office to include resolving Teams and Outlook connectivity issues.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

    • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft 365 tools (Teams, SharePoint, CoPilot, Power Automate, etc.).

    Compensation & Benefits:

    SELC offers salaries competitive with other leading environmental nonprofits nationally and provides an excellent benefits package. The wage range for this full-time and nonexempt position is $26.45/hour - $30.44/hour, based on experience. The annualized equivalent is approximately $55,000 – $63,300, assuming full-time hours.     SELC is a PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) eligible employer.

    SELC will provide relocation reimbursement up to a specific dollar amount for those relocating at least 50 miles from their current primary residence.

    Disability Insurance: SELC offers short-term and long-term disability insurance at no cost to employees. Disability insurance covers a portion of salary during periods of extended leave due to injury or disability.

    Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The EAP provides employees and their family members with support services when dealing with life’s struggles.

    Parental Leave: SELC employees are entitled to 12 weeks of paid parental leave following childbirth or adoption. The leave can be taken up to one year after childbirth or adoption and can be broken up in any manner that best accommodates the needs of the family. Once available parental leave has been used, employees have the additional option of requesting to return to work on a reduced schedule for up to 12 weeks.

    Family Leave: SELC employees are entitled to 6 weeks of paid leave to care for a family member suffering from a serious health condition.
