Description
Founded in 2009, Plastic Pollution Coalition (PPC) is a non-profit communications and advocacy organization that collaborates with an expansive global alliance of organizations, businesses, and individuals to create a more just, equitable, regenerative world free of plastic pollution and its toxic impacts. PPC works to tell the true story of plastic and advance systemic solutions in business, culture, and policy.
Plastic Pollution Coalition envisions a world free of plastic pollution, in which:
- Earth’s air, soil, and water are free of plastic pollution in all its forms and across the entire life cycle of plastic.
- The food, drinking water, and bodies of all creatures are free of plastic and its chemical compounds.
- BIPOC, rural, and low-income communities are no longer disproportionately harmed by the petrochemical industry.
- Individuals strive to embody zero waste values and engage with NGOs, businesses, and policymakers to advocate for systemic change.
- Human culture has shifted to be in balance with nature, where nothing is wasted and all of life and Earth’s resources are valued and protected.
- Businesses design goods to be package free or use packaging that is non-toxic and reusable or truly biodegradable and bio-benign.
- Corporations deliver their products using non-toxic refillable and reusable systems.
- Governments enforce regulations and legislation to support a circular economy.
- Fossil fuel industry dependence is diminished, and the global climate is protected.
Plastic Pollution Coalition educates and connects people and groups to advocate for a world free of plastic pollution.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Plastic pollution is a global crisis with mounting and proven negative health impacts for people and the planet. Microplastics have been found on the highest mountaintops, in the deepest ocean trenches, and throughout our bodies, including in our brains, blood, and reproductive organs. 99% of plastic is made from fossil fuels. Plastic is toxic at every stage of its existence, from extraction, to production, consumption, and use. We must drastically reduce plastic production and pollution.
PPC is hiring a temporary Campaign Coordinator to join our team full time to support advocacy campaigns to build critical public awareness on the dangerous impacts of plastic and ultimately contribute to stopping plastic pollution at the source. The Campaign Coordinator will coordinate, organize, and liaise with experts and stakeholders on PPC-led advocacy initiatives.
The role will focus on a new K–12 education campaign, the harms of plastic pollution and real solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. The campaign will expose conflicts of interest in public education, and will help to identify gaps in plastic pollution education. This campaign will prioritize schools in environmental justice communities in close proximity to plastic production and disposal facilities in the U.S., and will organize and collaborate with school boards, teachers, parents, and students.
This role will also support PPC’s engagement objectives with coalition ally organizations and individual members and support PPC’s broader advocacy and policy initiatives as assigned by the Senior Advocacy & Policy Manager.
