    Description

    About Democracy Now!

Democracy Now! is a non-profit news organization based in NYC. We produce a daily TV, radio and internet news hour that is carried by more than 1,500 stations worldwide and reaches millions of people through our website and apps, social platforms, podcasts and newsletters. Everyone who works at Democracy Now! is committed to creating and distributing high-quality independent news – it’s a great place to work.

    Overview

We are looking for an experienced program manager to lead and deepen Democracy Now!’s decade-old education program. As the solo dedicated staff person for education, you will lead our class visits program, steward existing educator relationships, expand our reach with educators and schools, facilitate workshops, support the development of teaching resources, provide strategic leadership for our internships and fellowships program and help shape the future of the education program. This position reports to the Executive Director.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate and lead class visits to Democracy Now!’s NYC studio, serving as the primary host and educator for student groups from middle school through college
    • Facilitate media literacy workshops for students and educators — designing sessions that build critical thinking skills around news, media ownership, and independent journalism
    • Serve as the primary point of support for educators who use Democracy Now! in their classrooms, building ongoing relationships with teachers across subject areas and grade levels
    • Manage outreach to schools and community organizations to grow participation in visits and workshops and deepen educator partnerships, including site visits
    • Develop original teaching materials and curriculum resources to make Democracy Now!'s journalism more accessible and useful to educators, with a focus on the high school level
    • Provide strategic oversight for Democracy Now!'s fellowship and internship programs
    • Track education program participation and outcomes; prepare reports for leadership and funders
    • Identify opportunities to expand the program's reach, deepen its impact, and grow its capacity over time

    Qualifications

    • 5–7 years of experience in education program management
    • Direct experience facilitating workshops or leading learning experiences for students and/or educators
    • Background in journalism, media production or media literacy
    • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization leading a small team
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities without close supervision
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to groups
    • Deep commitment to independent media
    • Fluent in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

    Preferred

    • Experience as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, or curriculum developer — especially at high school or post-secondary level
    • Familiarity with fellowship, internship, or early career program administration
    • Experience building or maintaining educator-facing resources or toolkits
    • Background in community organizing
    • Existing relationships with New York City schools or education networks
    • Experience working with CRM, website CMS and email marketing platforms

    Compensation

    • Salary: 92,239 - 98,000
    • Benefits include health, dental, retirement, paid time off and more!

    Other Information

    • This is a NYC-based position with in-person work requirements and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Democracy Now! and SAG-AFTRA.
