Attention experienced animal lovers! The NOAH Center is hiring a full-time Volunteer Coordinator.

Purpose
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the strategic direction, planning, administration, and evaluation of The NOAH Center’s Volunteer Program. As a volunteer-driven nonprofit, the coordinator oversees volunteer recruitment, onboarding, management, and retention to ensure that all programs are effectively staffed. This role provides leadership, on-site supervision, and implements initiatives that build a sustainable, long-term volunteer program with a positive culture. Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator supports community outreach to promote The NOAH Center’s adoption, spay/neuter, volunteer, and fundraising initiatives.
Education and Experience
- Minimum age: 18
- Associate’s degree required
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- At least two years of professional supervisory experience
- Experience in volunteer management preferred
- Experience in an animal welfare environment preferred
- Knowledge of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership, and coordination of people and resources
- Must meet all requirements of The NOAH Center’s WSP WATCH Background Check Policy
FLSA Classification
- Non-Exempt, regular, full-time
- $25-$28 per hour starting, DOE
- Varies; includes occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Medical and dental insurance (full-time only), paid sick leave and time off, and retirement options (once eligibility requirements are met).

- Strong presentation and communication skills; able to persuasively convey The NOAH Center’s mission to diverse audiences
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with volunteers, staff, donors, and the public
- Ability to assess volunteers’ skills, qualifications, interests, and strengths to match them with appropriate volunteer opportunities.
- Computer literate in a Windows environment
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
- Compassionate, professional, and collaborative
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based, with tasks in various environments including events, presentations, and meetings
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and lift up to 30 lbs. safely
- Exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, animal dander, bites, scratches, and potential biological/zoonotic agents
- Work may involve high noise levels
Tasks
Volunteer Program
- Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer program plan, including recruitment, retention, recognition, and engagement strategies.
- Identify volunteer needs across departments and match volunteers to appropriate roles based on skills, availability, and interests.
- Cultivate an inclusive and diverse volunteer environment that promotes equity and collaboration.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, applications, files, and program data; track hours, retention, and overall program impact.
- Professionally managed volunteer engagement with discretion and confidentiality while maintaining clear, consistent communication across social media and outreach channels.
- Prepare regular reports for leadership to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Create, update, and enforce volunteer program policies, guidelines, and best practices.
- Plan and coordinate volunteer recognition initiatives and appreciation events; partner with the development team to secure resources for these activities.
- Build strong working relationships with staff and volunteers to optimize resource use and program effectiveness.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and ongoing skill development opportunities for volunteers and staff supervising volunteers.
- Facilitate volunteer involvement in donor relations, community outreach, and organizational initiatives.
- Address volunteer conflicts and disciplinary issues professionally, following organizational protocols.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and animal-handling procedures; maintain awareness of environmental risks, including exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, and high-noise areas.
- Manage group volunteer projects and events.
- Maintain up-to-date volunteer manuals and position descriptions; ensure all volunteers acknowledge and understand relevant materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned and participate in The NOAH Center activities as requested
Community Outreach
- Plan and conduct shelter tours, presentations, and community engagement events.
- Work with schools, Scouts, and community groups on service projects.
- Represent The NOAH Center at community events to promote adoption, spay/neuter, volunteer, and fundraising programs.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop outreach materials.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, students, educators, and the public regarding animal welfare issues.
The Volunteer Coordinator must support The NOAH Center’s mission, philosophies, and practices. Superior customer service, consistent humane handling of animals, and resource management are priorities for every staff member and volunteer at The NOAH Center.
