Women Make Movies (WMM) is seeking a digital-savvy, results-oriented, mission-driven Marketing & Sales Manager (MSM) with a knowledge of film and documentary markets.
This role is responsible for connecting WMM’s films and programs with audiences across digital, education, community, and commercial spaces, with a heavy emphasis on the Film Distribution Program. This role leads the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies to increase visibility, deepen audience engagement, grow earned revenue, and amplify the impact of the organization, programs, and films. The position works closely with team members to bridge film-specific campaigns with broader organizational marketing – including brand management, website oversight, and content strategy – and understands how to move someone from a lead to a client or customer. The ideal candidate is equally passionate about the mission of Women Make Movies and marketing & sales as means of expanding organizational impact. The MSM will work closely with the Managing Director, Marketing Coordinator, WMM team members, and consultants to maximize the distribution of Women Make Movies films to festivals, independent theaters, educational, cultural, and community-based organizations and other markets for independent media.
The ideal candidate will be based in the New York metro area with the ability to get into NYC for events as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and execution of all sales, marketing, and promotional materials needed for the marketing of WMM’s films;
- Lead multi-platform, tech-savvy marketing campaigns with the goal of conversion and revenue growth in theatrical/semi-theatrical, educational, institutional, and consumer digital markets;
- Manage WMM’s online presence, including the WMM website and all social media channels to ensure website and social media channels provide an excellent user experience for customers, donors, filmmakers, and other stakeholders;
- Strategically align sales and marketing efforts to reach goals and objectives;
- Lead organizational branding, including visual identity, messaging consistency, and editorial voice across all communications;
- Represent WMM at industry events, including film festivals and other industry events, conferences and meetings; and
- Participate in film acquisitions, evaluating potential titles from a marketing and distribution perspective, and identifying films with strong audience and revenue potential.
Must-Haves:
- 5+ years professional experience in marketing, sales, and/or related communications roles in media arts or related/applicable fields;
- Experience with E-mail marketing, website management, and social media;
- Experience with CRM tools, social media platforms, and analytics dashboards;
- Well-versed in lead generation, CTAs, lead nurturance, and conversion strategies and tools;
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and sense of design direction;
- Able to orient marketing and sales toward conversions and revenue growth;
- Excellent multitasking, research, and organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and with a team;
- Flexibility, professionalism, and a positive attitude;
- Personable, good at building relationships, and understand the value of closing sales;
- Tech-savvy with ability to learn new techniques and programs quickly; and
- A commitment to WMM’s mission.
Skills & Attributes that are a Plus:
- A deep knowledge of independent and documentary film markets;
- Familiarity with film digital distribution platforms, licensing models, and audience segmentation;
- Experience with film acquisitions;
- Strong copywriting skills;
- Experience with Generation Engine Optimization; and
- Experience using AI tools ethically and responsibly in marketing efforts.
Salary & Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
- The starting salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $85,000. The salary will be determined based on experience and competency level.
