    Job Summary

    The site-based Early College Awareness College Access Program Specialist (CAPS) promotes college awareness and visibility of postsecondary advisory services to staff, students, and parents while coordinating college and other postsecondary advisory services within their assigned 6th -12th school.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Liaise with school faculty, parent-teacher organizations, and other community-based organizations who support the school
    • Support early high school and high school seniors in their college access efforts including exposure to pre-college activities/processes such as campus tours, contests, scholarships, and early career exposure
    • Work independently to build and lead a post-secondary culture for the students, families, and school
    • Support the school counselor with tasks related to pipelining specialized groups of students to the post-secondary process
    • Develop an individualized advising plan for students using current resources for college and career exposure for students in grades 6-12
    • Provide students with postsecondary-related test (Pre-ACT, ASVAB, etc.), college entrance exams and other test preparation resources
    • Nominate qualified students, based on their academic and extracurricular progress, for awards, summer opportunities, fly-ins, and other early college awareness programs
    • Conduct group workshops and seminars about the college access process using CollegeBound Foundation advising modules or other appropriate guides
    • Participate in community outreach and education regarding college access
    • Conduct analysis of data associated with college outreach activities, surveys, interest inventories, college entrance exams, college applications and financial/scholarship applications.
    • Assist with compiling information for Maryland State grant reporting guidelines where applicable
    • Serve as student advocate and refer students to relevant resources (school counselors, staff, college departments and/or other outside agencies) as necessary
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Experience working with adolescents and college access strongly preferred
    • This position's experience level is between entry and mid-level as it requires either some experience working with college access, or a self-starter who is able to confidently lead a post-secondary program

    Other:

    • Valid driver’s license required and access to reliable vehicle
    • Spanish language fluency strongly preferred

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

    • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
    • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically underrepresented populations) and maintain a work environment that affirms commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications
