    Description

    The Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP) seeks a Director of Communications (DoC) to provide strategic vision and leadership across all aspects of the organization’s external communications. The DoC will shape and oversee ALLMEP’s communications strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and mission. This role will manage communications staff and consultants, coordinate messaging across platforms, and ensure that ALLMEP’s voice and brand are strong, consistent, and impactful across growing audiences that include policymakers, donors, media, and the general public.

    The Director will serve as the lead expert on communications at ALLMEP, responsible for guiding narrative strategy, media engagement, digital presence, publications, events communications, and overall brand positioning.

    ABOUT THE ALLIANCE FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACE

    Founded in 2004 and with offices in Europe, Israel, and Palestine, ALLMEP leads a growing network of over 200 civil society organizations, with hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Israelis living and working in the region. Our work advances cooperation, trust, justice, equality, mutual understanding, and peace within and between these communities.

    Internationally, we amplify the voices of Israeli and Palestinian peacebuilders, increasing their profile and raising support for their work and our shared agenda among policymakers. In Israel and Palestine, we raise the capacity and collective impact of our member organizations. Our mission is to secure self-determination for all and to build a sustainable peace in the region.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Communications Leadership

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports ALLMEP’s mission and organizational goals.
    • Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms, regions, and audiences.
    • Serve as the primary steward of ALLMEP’s brand, voice, and outward-facing communications.

    Team & Resource Management

    • Manage and mentor communications staff, interns, and consultants.
    • Oversee budgets and resources dedicated to communications, ensuring efficiency and impact.
    • Establish benchmarks, KPIs, and systems to measure communications effectiveness.
    • Liaise and partner with internal stakeholders in advocacy and development departments to ensure seamless delivery of communications assets and services.

    Media & Public Relations

    • Lead ALLMEP’s media strategy, cultivating relationships with journalists and outlets across multiple geographies.
    • Oversee press releases, op-eds, media advisories, and spokesperson preparation.
    • Act as a senior spokesperson when appropriate.

    Digital Strategy & Content

    • Working closely with the Social Media Manager, direct the planning, creation, and dissemination of content across social media, website, newsletters, and digital campaigns.
    • Ensure storytelling and digital presence reflect ALLMEP’s mission and amplify members’ voices.
    • Collaborate with the development team on donor engagement and online fundraising campaigns.
    • Oversee the development and production of special media projects, from podcasts to short films.

    Publications & Events Communications

    • Oversee the production of organizational reports, briefs, and thought leadership publications.
    • Ensure effective communications support for major events, conferences, and convenings.
    • Support and advance thought leadership by ALLMEP team and NGO members.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Work closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership to align communications with advocacy, fundraising, and programmatic goals.
    • Identify opportunities to increase visibility among policymakers, funders, and global audiences.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 7–10+ years of experience in communications, PR, journalism, or marketing, with at least 3 years in a leadership/management role, preferably relating to complex public policy issues.
    • Proven success managing media relations and securing top-tier press coverage.
    • Experience overseeing multichannel communications (press, social, web, email).
    • Strong team leadership skills, with experience supervising and mentoring staff.
    • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities for diverse audiences.
    • Familiarity with digital tools, ranging from CMS platforms and social media schedulers to analytics tools and email marketing systems.
    • Ability to work cross-departmentally with fundraising, advocacy, and program teams.
    • Experience developing communications strategies, messaging, and brand guidelines.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and oversee external vendors/consultants.
    • Demonstrated success developing nuanced and strategic messaging involving complex issue sets, as well as crisis communications and reputational risk management.
    • Ability to take initiative and pursue goals with minimal supervision, as well as to work collaboratively and calmly in a dynamic, multi-cultural, fast-paced environment.
    • Experience managing or producing podcasts, short films, and other audio-visual content.
    • Facility with content creation, with proficiency in Adobe, Canva, and/or other design tools.
    • Proficient with ads managers, paid social marketing, and budgeting.

    Exceptional candidates will also bring:

    • Experience in a nonprofit or advocacy-focused environment.
    • Expertise in the specific messaging and communications environment associated with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
    • Experience supporting fundraising communications.
    • Experience working in international contexts or across time zones.
    • Web site management and coding skills.
    • Additional language proficiencies (Hebrew, Arabic, French, and/or German).
    • Knowledge of SEO, digital advertising, or email A/B testing.
    • Video editing and/or production skills.
    • Background in email marketing and content management systems.
    • Familiarity with donor CRM systems.

    Benefits

    This is a full-time, remote position, with preference for candidates based on the East Coast of the US, or in Europe or the Middle East. Salary will be based on experience and industry standards, with a range of $75,000 to $100,000 annually. We aim to offer competitive compensation, and salaries will be aligned with cost of living considerations for the candidate's location. The final offer will comply with applicable local laws and regulations regarding pay equity and transparency.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    English fluency required; other language proficiencies (Hebrew, Arabic, French, and/or German) desirable.
