Nonprofit
Part-Time Communications Coordinator
Details
Description
We're looking for a Communications Coordinator to execute and coordinate the Mainline Stream's communications infrastructure — newsletter production, list management, story curation, and archive maintenance. You'll be the person who turns what's happening across our network — the sermons, the actions, the quiet acts of courage — into a steady drumbeat of newsletters, curated stories, and coordinated outreach that keeps our community informed, connected, and inspired. A background in faith-rooted organizing, nonprofit communications, advocacy, or movement communications is a strong plus.
This role is a strong fit for a writer and systems-builder who loves both the craft of a good sentence and the discipline of a well-run content calendar — someone who can sit with a story from the field and know exactly where it belongs next.
What You'll Do
Newsletter Writing & Internal Communications
- Write and produce a monthly newsletter for the Mainline Stream team and key stakeholders.
- Gather updates, resources, announcements, stories, and opportunities from across the stream
- Keep newsletters timely, well-organized, visually accessible, and true to the tone and mission of Mainline Protestant Stream.
- Build and maintain a consistent editorial rhythm and content calendar.
- Support with social media
Email Platform & Mailing List Management
- Manage the Mainline Protestant Stream's existing email platform, keeping it running smoothly and configured to the team's needs.
- Maintain and organize the mailing list — contact updates, segmentation, basic data hygiene.
- Upload, format, schedule, and distribute email communications.
- Track core performance metrics: open rates, click-through rates, engagement trends.
- Content website updates
Storytelling & Content Curation
- Curate stories, reflections, resources, and field examples that reflect the Mainline Protestant Stream's work and impact.
- Collect leads, photos, quotes, and updates from members, clergy, organizers, and partners.
- Spot strong story opportunities for newsletters, public communications, reports, social media, or media outreach.
- Ensure stories are gathered with appropriate permissions and sensitivity to context.
Liaison with Membership & PR Firm
- Serve as the communications link between Mainline Protestant Stream members and our public relations firm.
- Share story leads, updates, and field intelligence with the PR firm as needed.
- Coordinate requests for quotes, interviews, photos, event details, and other assets.
- Keep communication flowing clearly between organizers, members, leadership, and outside partners.
Research & Story Archive Management
- Research and maintain a story archive or database for the Mainline Protestant Stream.
- Organize stories, media leads, member highlights, photos, and resources in a searchable system.
- Track story status, source contacts, permissions, and publication history.
- Build basic systems for preserving institutional knowledge over time.
What You'll Bring
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience producing newsletters, email campaigns, or organizational communications.
- Experience managing an email platform such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Action Network, EveryAction, Substack, or similar.
- Sharp organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple content streams, deadlines, and relationships at once.
- Experience collecting stories, conducting interviews, or curating content from community members or field partners.
- Comfort working with faith communities, clergy, organizers, and justice-oriented coalitions.
- Ability to communicate with care, discretion, and cultural sensitivity.
- Background in faith-rooted organizing, nonprofit communications, advocacy, or movement communications.
Nice to Have
- Ability to translate complex justice issues into clear, accessible language.
- Experience working across diverse denominational, ecumenical, or interfaith networks.
- Strong editorial judgment and an eye for a compelling story.
- Familiarity with photo management, content permissions, and storytelling ethics.
- Comfort working independently while staying responsive to a collaborative team.
- Basic understanding of public relations, media relations, or narrative strategy.
- Experience with databases, spreadsheets, Google Drive, Airtable, or similar systems.
