Position Summary
The Development Manager plays a vital role in sustaining and growing our impact. This position leads day-to-day fundraising activities and helps implement a comprehensive development strategy that supports our programs and long-term vision.
Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program staff, the Development Manager will build meaningful relationships with donors, foundations, and community partners. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is both strategic and hands-on, and who is deeply committed to equity, inclusion, and community-centered work.
Key Responsibilities
Donor Engagement & Individual Giving
- Manage and maintain the donor database, ensuring accuracy and integrity of records
- Support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors
- Draft personalized donor communications, including acknowledgments and appeals
- Track and grow donor pipelines, identifying new prospective supporters
- Coordinate donor recognition and engagement efforts
- Partner with leadership to cultivate major donor relationships
Grants & Institutional Funding
- Research and identify foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities
- Write and submit grant proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry
- Track deadlines and ensure compliance with grant requirements
- Maintain strong relationships with institutional funders
Communications
- Create compelling fundraising communications that center community impact
- Assist in developing digital campaigns across email and social media platforms
- Collaborate on fundraising materials and website content
- Monitor engagement metrics to strengthen outreach strategies
Events & Community Partnerships
- Coordinate fundraising events that build community and generate support
- Assist in securing sponsors, donors, and participants
- Strengthen relationships with community organizations and partners
- Represent the organization at events and outreach opportunities
Organizational Support & Strategy
- Track fundraising progress and prepare reports for leadership and the Board
- Contribute to the development budget and annual fundraising plan
- Support strategic conversations around growth and sustainability
- Engage board members and volunteers in development efforts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, communications, public administration, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development or fundraising
- Experience with grant writing and foundation research
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with attention to detail
- Experience managing donor databases (Network for Good a plus)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort building relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ communities and cultural competency
- Passion for the organization’s mission and values
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fundraising events and campaigns
- Background in digital fundraising strategies
- Knowledge of donor stewardship and nonprofit fundraising best practices
- Experience working with or advocating for LGBTQ+ communities
