    Description

    About Creator Accountability Network

Creator Accountability Network (CAN) is a growing nonprofit organization working to make online communities safer and more ethically accountable.

CAN operates a training and credentialing program for content creators and supports systems for accountability, victim advocacy, investigation, mediation, and community safety when problematic behavior occurs. Our work is supported by a small staff and an international network of dedicated volunteers.

CAN is entering an important period of growth. With a new strategic plan, an evolving staffing structure, and plans to expand our reach and organizational capacity, we are building the systems and team needed to move from an early-stage organization into its next phase.

We are looking for a Program Director to lead the day-to-day execution of CAN's programs and ensure that strategy becomes action.

    About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Program Director is CAN's senior leader responsible for program execution, operational coordination, and volunteer-team leadership.

Working closely with the CEO and other team members, the Program Director will translate organizational priorities into clear work plans, effective programs, consistent processes, engaged and supported volunteer teams, and measurable results.

This is a hands-on leadership role. CAN remains a relatively small organization, so the Program Director must be equally comfortable developing systems, leading people, solving problems, and stepping directly into the work when needed.

The role currently oversees volunteer teams supporting Victim Advocacy, Investigations, and Credentialing and will help shape CAN's program structure as the organization grows.

    What You'll Do

Lead program execution and operations. Translate CAN's strategic priorities into actionable program plans, milestones, workflows, and measurable outcomes. Oversee core program functions including credentialing, reporting, investigations, victim advocacy, and mediation coordination. Maintain clear documentation, systems, and processes and identify opportunities to improve effectiveness.

Lead and support CAN's volunteer teams. Oversee volunteer recruitment, onboarding, role clarity, engagement, supervision, and retention in alignment with organizational needs. Build and maintain a volunteer structure that supports both strong program delivery and sustainable participation. Regularly assess workload, capacity, and burnout risk; address areas of overextension; and develop practical approaches to improve support, recognition, role clarity, and retention, while maintaining appropriate quality control and risk awareness. Foster a volunteer environment that recognizes the emotional demands of CAN's work and incorporates appropriate trauma-informed practices, boundaries, and support.

Grow CAN’s membership and creator community. Develop and implement CAN’s target-market and membership outreach strategy, including identifying priority communities, platforms, networks, and aligned organizations. Establish and track annual membership growth goals, launch targeted outreach efforts, and create meaningful touchpoints that strengthen engagement among credentialed creators.

Strengthen and evolve CAN’s program model. Help assess CAN’s programs for alignment with audience needs, organizational standards, and available capacity. Lead practical testing of workflows and protocols, including tabletop exercises and scenario-based reviews, and use what is learned to identify gaps, improve processes, and strengthen program readiness.

Measure and improve program performance. Establish and monitor meaningful program metrics, track progress toward work-plan and strategic-plan goals, identify areas that are off track, and regularly communicate results, challenges, and resource needs to the CEO.

Strengthen organizational systems. Help CAN continue its evolution from early-stage processes toward repeatable, sustainable systems. Facilitate coordination across programs and volunteer functions and ensure consistent application of organizational policies and standards.

Support organizational growth. Partner with the CEO and other team members on development, partnerships, grant-related program information, stakeholder engagement, and other initiatives connected to CAN's growth. Represent CAN professionally with external partners when appropriate.

Steward resources responsibly. Manage program activities within approved budgets, identify capacity and resource constraints, and recommend prioritization or structural changes when needed.

    Who We're Looking For

We are less interested in finding someone who checks every conventional box than in finding someone who can lead people, build systems, exercise judgment, and move work forward in an evolving organization.

Strong candidates will bring many of the following:

    • Significant experience leading programs, operations, or related work in a nonprofit, mission-driven organization, community setting, or similarly complex environment.
    • Experience in human services, restorative justice, victim advocacy, trauma-informed practice, community safety, mediation, investigations, or related fields is a strong plus.
    • Experience supervising, coordinating, or developing employees and/or volunteers.
    • Demonstrated ability to turn organizational strategy into actionable plans, priorities, and workflows.
    • Strong project-management skills and the ability to manage multiple interconnected areas of work.
    • Experience establishing processes, documentation, metrics, and systems in an organization that is growing or changing.
    • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, and developing people, including employees and/or volunteers, and creating the structure and support they need to succeed.
    • Strong communication skills and sound judgment, including knowing when to solve a problem independently and when an issue should be elevated.
    • Comfort working with sensitive situations and maintaining appropriate confidentiality, boundaries, and discretion.
    • A collaborative leadership style that combines accountability with respect, clarity, and trust.
    • Comfort working remotely with substantial autonomy and collaborating with colleagues and volunteers located across the country.

Please note: At CAN, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace - so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles!

    How We Work

CAN is building an intentional workplace alongside an intentional organization.

    We value people who:

    • Take accountability seriously. We believe accountability includes clarity, follow-through, learning, and a willingness to address difficult issues.
    • Collaborate without avoiding ownership. We value input and shared thinking, while also expecting people to make decisions and move work forward within their responsibilities.
    • Can build while doing. Not every process at CAN is fully developed yet. The right person will see that as an opportunity to help create thoughtful, sustainable systems.
    • Communicate openly. In a fully remote organization, proactive communication, transparency about capacity, and early identification of problems matter.
    • Respect both people and process. CAN's work often involves complicated circumstances and competing perspectives. We value empathy, fairness, discretion, and consistency.
    • Are comfortable with change. CAN is moving from a small, volunteer-heavy organization into a more fully staffed nonprofit. Roles, systems, and priorities will continue to evolve as we grow.

    Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this full-time position is $75,000-$90,000, depending on experience and qualifications. CAN is developing an expanded employee benefits package as part of its organizational growth. Details will be provided as part of the interview process.

    Location

CAN is a fully remote organization, and this position may be performed from anywhere in the United States. While work schedules are flexible and CAN operates across multiple time zones, this role requires meaningful, consistent overlap with Eastern Time business hours to support close coordination with the CEO and other organizational needs. Some travel may be required for organizational meetings, conferences, or stakeholder engagement as CAN grows.

    Benefits

CAN is developing an expanded employee benefits package as part of its organizational growth. Details will be provided as part of the interview process.
