    Description

    Purpose Statement: The Activity Specialist is responsible for leading engaging, skill-based enrichment activities that support students’ personal, social, and intellectual development. We are looking for specialists who are either professionals with expertise in their field or college or graduate students pursuing specialization in areas such as digital arts, music, music production, podcasting, and other fields that engage middle school and high school students. Our goal is to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment under the supervision of the Program Director.

    Essential Functions: Establishes and enforces behavior standards and discipline to ensure students' safety and well-being in middle and high school.

    • Instruction & Engagement: Develops and implements dynamic lessons in assigned areas. Adapt instruction to students’ grade levels and abilities.
    • Youth Development: Fosters creativity, collaboration, and confidence-building through structured activities and performance opportunities.
    • Classroom & Behavior Management: Maintains behavioral standards to ensure student safety and well-being.
    • Collaboration: Works closely with program staff to integrate activities into the broader after-school curriculum.
    • Parent & Family Communication: Shares student progress and program updates with families when appropriate.
    • Program Support: Assists with homework help, group supervision, and special events as needed.
    • Documentation: Maintains attendance records, lesson plans, and reports of incidents or progress.
    • Professional Development: Attends monthly staff trainings and contributes to program growth.

    Job Requirements: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    Skills & Knowledge

    • Develops and produces high-quality podcasts, including planning, scripting, recording, editing, and publishing episodes.
    • Creates original audio content for various digital platforms.
    • Manages music production projects from conception through mixing and mastering, ensuring professional sound quality.
    • Collaborates with content creators, educators, and technical staff to develop engaging digital arts programs and workshops.
    • Stays current with trends in podcasting, music technology, and digital arts tools to innovate and improve content quality.
    • Maintains and troubleshoots audio equipment and digital editing software.
    • Curates sound libraries and digital assets for ongoing and future projects.
    • Promotes digital arts initiatives through social media and online channels.
    • Has strong youth development and classroom management skills.
    • Ability to design engaging, culturally responsive lessons.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Abilities

    • Work collaboratively with diverse student and staff groups.
    • Balance structured instruction with creativity and flexibility.
    • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards.

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience in podcast production, music composition, and audio editing.
    • Proficiency with digital audio workstations (e.g., Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools).
    • Strong understanding of sound design, mixing, and mastering techniques.
    • Knowledge of multimedia content creation and distribution platforms.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
    • Passion for digital arts, music, and innovative media production.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with video editing and multimedia integration.
    • Familiarity with social media marketing for digital content.

    Responsibility: The typical methods for carrying out the job's functions involve the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and a high level of fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires about 15% sitting, 20% walking, and 65% standing. It is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Candidates must have targeted job-related education that meets the organization's prerequisite requirements, and relevant job experience is preferred.
