    Description

    Job Title: Communications Manager

    Organization: Community Resources for Science (CRS) is a nonprofit organization based in Berkeley that helps teachers and scientists work together to bring science learning to life for elementary and middle school students in the Bay Area. We provide information, support, and training for K-8 teachers, and engage hundreds of scientists and engineers from academia and industry in volunteer outreach leading science lessons in schools.

    Responsibilities:

    Primary responsibilities: Stewardship, coordination and implementation of CRS overall “storytelling” and communications strategy, in line with CRS policies and best practices.

    Primary Responsibilities include:

    • Manage organization communications strategy and timeline, ensuring consistent voice, and creating effective messaging to inform, inspire, motivate, and engage our various stakeholders and partners
    • Coordinate CRS messaging across website, social media, newsletters; maintain library of CRS graphics and messaging to support CRS team in effective and consistent communications
    • Prepare reports documenting CRS accomplishments for funders, donors, partners
    • Prepare donor appeal and acknowledgement communications for individual donors, and periodic reports and social media posts for sponsors, funders and partners
    • Maintain updated program impact documentation including photos, videos, participant testimonials for CRS marketing and reporting purposes
    • Media outreach for coverage of outreach events
    • Support with planning and implementation of CRS program events, such as teacher and volunteer appreciation events, fundraising events, and school site events
    • Coordination with CRS sponsors, partners, and funders regarding public acknowledgements of their support
    • Use and maintenance of Salesforce database system to track program workflow
    • Participate in CRS organizational and program development; participate in planning and efforts to achieve CRS strategic goals
    • Assist with special projects as needed

    Qualifications

    • 3 years experience in science or education communications, or demonstrated equivalent
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in written communications, graphics, social media, and photo/video
    • Strong speaking and writing skills
    • Ability to work independently and be self-directed, and to collaborate on teams
    • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs, stand, walk up stairs. Ability to speak and use computer to generate emails, record data and carry out administrative tasks.
    • Background clearance required.

    Preferred:

    • Proficiency with Wordpress, Canva, Adobe or similar graphic and digital tools; Google suite tools, iContact
    • Proficiency with Salesforce.com platform

    Job requires ability to travel, and transport materials, to local workplaces and school sites. Access to car preferred. CRS is an equal opportunity employer.

    Schedule, Hours, and Salary: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Flexible work arrangement: Can be hybrid, with some work can be done remotely/virtually, but requires in person presence at East Bay school sites and CRS Berkeley office, approx 1-2 times per week on average.
