    Senior Health Economist / Decision Modeler (Consultant)

    Location: Remote (U.S. preferred; international candidates with appropriate experience will be considered)

    Commitment: 50 - 100% FTE (consulting engagement)

    Duration: Approximately July - October 2026 (with potential extension)

    About the Opportunity

    The Health Finance Institute (HFI) is seeking an experienced Health Economist and Decision Modeler to support development of advanced economic models for global health and biopharmaceutical clients. The consultant will work closely with HFI and project partners to develop, validate, and communicate sophisticated health economic models and analyses.

    This role is ideal for an individual with extensive experience in health economic evaluation, Markov modeling, and epidemiologic analysis who enjoys working at the interface of research, policy, and strategic decision-making.

    Responsibilities

      • Develop and adapt state-transition (Markov cohort) models for health economic evaluation.
      • Conduct cost-effectiveness, budget impact, and scenario analyses.
      • Translate epidemiologic and clinical evidence into model structures and parameter estimates.
      • Develop transparent, well-documented model code and supporting technical documentation.
      • Perform deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses.
      • Support interpretation and communication of modeling results for technical and non-technical audiences.
      • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, epidemiologists, policy experts, and clients.
      • Contribute to scientific reports, manuscripts, presentations, and client deliverables.

    Required Qualifications

      • PhD or Master's degree in Health Economics, Decision Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
      • Demonstrated expertise developing Markov cohort (state-transition) models.
      • Strong understanding of epidemiology and disease progression modeling.
      • Peer-reviewed publication record in health economics, outcomes research, epidemiology, or related fields.
      • Experience conducting health economic evaluations for pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, or public health interventions.
      • Advanced proficiency in R.
      • Experience developing and maintaining Excel-based health economic models.
      • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience with individual-level microsimulation models.
      • Familiarity with discrete-event simulation or other advanced modeling approaches.
      • Experience supporting HTA submissions (e.g., NICE, ICER, CADTH, PBAC, HAS).
      • Experience working with global health organizations, ministries of health, or international development partners.
      • Experience with probabilistic sensitivity analysis and value-of-information methods.
      • Familiarity with Git/GitHub or other version control tools.
