About Us

Located in Bryn Mawr, Lifecycle WomanCare (LWC), previously known as The Birth Center, is one of the oldest and largest freestanding birth centers in the country. It was the first licensed birth center in Pennsylvania and provides exceptional healthcare services for women of all ages, regardless of income. The organization changed its name to Lifecycle WomanCare to illuminate and highlight the breadth of high-quality care it provides to women over the course of their entire lifetime – from adolescence through post-menopausal years.

Since 1978, LWC has delivered more than 12,000 babies providing the highest level of personal care to women and their families throughout the greater Philadelphia region. LWC is a teaching site for nurse-midwifery students as well as for undergraduate nursing students from local universities. It provides a learning environment for the promotion of normal childbirth. The nurse midwives have privileges at Bryn Mawr Hospital and also attend births there.

LWC is organized as a 501(c)3 charitable organization with its revenue generating primarily from fee-for-service. Additional revenue comes from individual donations and foundation support. LWC employs approximately 55 individuals of which half are part-time staff and operates a satellite office in South Philadelphia.
