Dartmouth College Master of Energy Transition

The mission of the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society at Dartmouth is to accelerate an affordable, reliable, and equitable clean energy transition for the benefit of society. A sustainable, affordable, and equitable clean energy future depends on educating and empowering the next generation of experts, leaders, and informed citizens. The Irving Institute's Teaching & Learning program advances Dartmouth's curriculum and co-curricular offerings, focusing on energy systems, the clean energy transition, and the societal impacts and opportunities they present. We seek to equip undergraduate and graduate students with the knowledge and skills needed to lead, innovate, and make informed decisions that shape a better energy and climate future.

Master of Energy Transition Degree is Dartmouth's nine-month, residential Master of Energy Transition degree program equips early-career professionals with the interdisciplinary training, real-world experience, and expert mentorship needed to help power a more sustainable, climate-stable future. From infrastructure and technology to economics, policy, and social equity, you'll engage with the full complexity of clean energy systems. Through comprehensive coursework with renowned Dartmouth faculty, you'll delve into the intricacies of renewable resources, climate science, and sustainability—preparing you to work with local and global stakeholders.

We welcome students from all academic backgrounds. Whether you have focused on STEM, social sciences, or the humanities, there is demand for your skills and perspective in the energy transition. Studying with renowned Dartmouth faculty and supported by an industry mentor, you'll build the skills and knowledge to collaborate with stakeholders across sectors, locally and globally. Students also join career treks to U.S. energy hubs, where you will meet with decision-makers and staff, tour facilities, and hear directly from teams in industry, government, and local organizations about the current state of the energy sector.

The admissions for the MET is administered by the Frank J. Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies which sits at the center of Dartmouth's research enterprise. The School's interdisciplinary emphasis brings together graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across disciplines and provides supports as they drive discovery, teach and mentor undergraduates, and extend Dartmouth's impact around the world.

Graduate education has been part of Dartmouth's mission since its first advanced degree was awarded in 1865. The establishment of the Guarini School in 2016, which was Dartmouth's first new school in more than 150 years, reflects Dartmouth's commitment to research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the preparation of its students for global leadership.
