About Us

Heartland Hospice is an organization that provides a unique type of care to patients with a limited life expectancy and to their loved ones. Hospice emphasizes quality rather than length of life. We focus on the entire person, their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Volunteers play a vital role in the care of hospice patients. Most time spent with patients is friendly visits. This can be reading to the patient, doing an activity together or just sitting quietly and visiting. Some volunteers choose to receive additional training which allows them to be Vigil Volunteers who provide companionship and presence to patients and family members during the patient's final hours of life. Our volunteers find this work to be very rewarding and many have been volunteering for years.

To become a volunteer with Heartland Hospice, you need to be at least 18 years old and complete an application, background check, TB test and training. There are no costs involved. Heartland Hospice provides services to patients in 9 counties, throughout Northeast Ohio, so visits and training can be scheduled at a location and time that are convenient for you.
