  • Mission

Our Mission Rooted in our faith and through partnership with the community, we strive to help everyone achieve economic stability by promoting food security, growing financial capacity, and building resilient communities. Our Vision We envision healthy, stable, and hunger-free communities where everyone thrives.

    About Us

HCM Began in 1970 as a response to individuals falling through the gaps of existing safety nets in Haywood County, NC. At first it was a 100% volunteer led phone ministry, where volunteers took phone calls from those in crisis and would network with local church networks to supply for the needs of the community.

As the years went by, area churches saw the benefit of formalizing the work of HCM and hiring leadership to be able to take the ministry to a new level. After obtaining 501c3 status, and through community partnerships, HCM opened a food pantry, a clothing closet, and began offering financial aid to those in crisis.

From those small beginnings HCM has now grown to be one of the largest nonprofits in Haywood County. Our food insecurity program operates the largest charitable food distribution in Western North Carolina, according to our partner MANNA FoodBank. In the 2021 fiscal year, we moved well over 865 tons of food in Haywood County! In addition to our food insecurity work, we continue to minister to those in crisis through our Buckie and Jay Somers Crisis Center, where families in our community can come for help to avoid utility disconnection or eviction from housing.
