Austinites for Geographic Representation

About Us

We are a grassroots group pushing for fairer elections for Austin City Council. We are dedicated to bringing geographic representation to Austin. Our goal? Let the people draw the maps and let our neighbors, not the campaign contributors, run the show!

Austin’s civic, political, and neighborhood organizations have met since March, 2011 to develop, agree to, and spread the word about a plan for geographic representation on the Austin City Council. Our plan also includes a non-partisan redistricting commission.

A large and growing number of groups and individuals agree that a simple 10-1 plan is the way to go. Specifics of our plan are:

  • Ten, geographically local, city council districts,
  • Drawn up by a non-partisan, independent, citizen’s redistricting commission,
  • With the mayor still elected at-large.
