The Kirov Academy of Washington, DC, USA was founded in 1990 as the only private school and non-profit organization offering an accredited, stimulating academic curriculum, an active 24/7 resident life program, and an outstanding ballet program training young dancers in the celebrated Vaganova Method. It was the first dance school outside Russia to be officially granted the right to use the name “Kirov.” At its opening ceremony, letters of congratulations were offered to the Academy by the late President Bush and John E. Frohnmeyer, then Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2019 the Kirov Academy hosted its inaugural International Music Festival and Competition, marking the launch of the Kirov’s music department, dedicated to providing students the highest caliber of classical music education.
