  • Mission

    Historic Newton encourages inquiry about and exploration of Newton within the broad context of American History. To accomplish this mission, we maintain historic properties that interpret Newton's past and present. We collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit historical artifacts of local significance and present public programs that involve the diverse population of Newton and the region.

    About Us

    Historic Newton is a public/private partnership between the City of Newton and the Newton Historical Society. Historic Newton:

    Operates two museums: the Jackson Homestead and Museum and the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds.

    Maintains three historic burying grounds in the City of Newton.

    Collects, preserves, interprets, and exhibits historic artifacts of local significance.

    Offers workshops, lectures, walking tours, discussions, and other educational programs that educate and involve the diverse population of Newton and the region.

    Maintains an archive of historic documents, photographs, maps, and other materials related to the history of Newton.

    Promotes and celebrates historic research and preservation in and about the City of Newton.
