Returning to downtown Hartford, CT, UConn Hartford interweaves top-tier academic programs with the vitality and unique educational and service opportunities offered by Connecticut's capital city. The move establishes a neighborhood campus, with UConn Hartford being integrated with the Hartford Public Library and surrounded by the Wadsworth Antheneum, Connecticut Science Center, Connecticut Convention Center, and state and city government offices.
UConn Hartford is home to the University's Department of Public Policy (DPP) and the School of Social Work (SSW). Both graduate programs offer dual degrees and partnerships with programs across the University including the joint MSW/MPA and MSW/MPP program.
The Department of Public Policy
The DPP offers master’s degrees in Public Administration (MPA), Public Policy (MPP), and Survey Research (MASR). The department also offers four graduate level certificates and an Internship and Professional Practice (IPP) Program that provides students with significant managerial and/or analytic work experience in a public or nonprofit agency. According to the U.S. World News Report, the DPP is in the top 50 for public affairs programs and in the top 10 for public finance and budgeting. The DPP also hosts the only NASPAA accredited MPA program in the State of Connecticut.
The School of Social Work
UConn is the first public university in Connecticut to offer a bachelor's (BSW), master's (MSW), and doctoral degree (PhD) in social work. The SSW is in the top 20% of Best Schools for Social Work according to the US. World News Report. The School has been awarded federally funded grants on workforce development that address access to behavioral health care for underserved populations. The School is also home to a Center for International Social Work Studies, the Nancy A. Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work, and the Puerto Rican & Latin@ Studies Project.
