    Mission

The Girl Choir of South Florida presents the compelling sound of young women’s voices in outstanding performances through a quality music education program.

    About the Girl Choir

The Girl Choir of South Florida is the premier singing ensemble for young women in the tri-county area. The Girl Choir, led by Artistic Director Wallis Peterson, has been extolled by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel as “imaginative, accessible, expressive, and entertaining”, gaining a reputation for delivering compelling concert programming.

The Girl Choir’s repertoire is broad, from ancient to modern, classical to popular, sacred to secular, and folk to Broadway, encompassing many cultures, faiths, and traditions. Over the past seven seasons, the Girl Choir has commissioned and premiered works by noted choral composers, including Eleanor Daley, Bob Chilcott, and David Brunner. The Girl Choir regularly presents concerts at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and as part of many concert series throughout South Florida.

The Girl Choir brings music to enrich life in South Florida through performances for a variety of cultural, civic, and charitable institutions. The Girl Choir has been a part of productions by Florida Grand Opera and the Master Chorale of South Florida as well as events hosted by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the International Women’s Forum, the Transplant Foundation of the University of Miami, the Young Professionals Organization, Holy Cross Hospital, and the Pembroke Pines Art Guild.

The Girl Choir continues to grow as a vibrant part of the worldwide performing arts community. The choir sang in the Crescent City Choral Festival and the Pacific International Children’s Choir Festival (a part of the prestigious Oregon Bach Festival), and, most recently, embarked upon its first international tour, singing both with Finnish ensemble Rajaton as well as under the direction of acclaimed choral composer Bob Chilcott and conductor Kari Ala-Pöllänen in Festival 500 Sharing the Voices, in Newfoundland, Canada.

A high-quality music education is at the foundation of the Girl Choir’s unique sound. Its multi-level program of ensembles gives each chorister sight-reading, ear training, and vocal production skills while developing artistry and teamwork. This program meets all of the Florida Department of Education Sunshine State Standards for Arts: Music
