  • Mission

Promote the preservation of sensitive land forms and wildlife habitat in Peñasquitos and Lopez Canyons and adjacent areas; retain the historical integrity of the preserve; and promote public awareness of the preserve's cultural and natural resources.

    About Us

The Friends of los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is a dues paying membership organization. The members elect a Board of Directors every two years. The Friends have been volunteering in the Preserve since 1984. We lead most of the interpretive hikes in the canyon and organize projects to restore wildlife habitat in the Preserve and adjacent Black Mountain Open Space Park. We also support the cultural landmarks such as the historic adobe Rancho in what was the first Mexican land grant in San Diego County. In fact, the Friends just published an archaeology book with the results of decades of archaeological digs and historical investigations. A Friends' board member was a co-editor of the book.
