About Us

Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness (NMW) was formed in 1996 to advance the views of residents of northeastern Minnesota who support protection and preservation of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the Quetico-Superior ecosystem. Our mission is 1) To protect and preserve wilderness and wild places 2) to advocate for the protection of the BWCAW and the enhancement of its wilderness aspect and 3) to foster education about the value of wilderness and wild places.

NMW is the lead organization in the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, a national effort to protect the clean water, clean air and forest landscape of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and its watershed from toxic pollution caused by mining copper, nickel and other metals from sulfide-bearing ore.
