About Us

Raritan Headwaters is a non-profit, conservation organization whose mission is to protect clean water in the north and south branch regions of the Raritan River.

We serve the residents of 38 municipalities within Morris, Somerset and Hunterdon Counties and beyond to include more than 1.5 million people who live and work in New Jersey’s more urban areas.

·         We connect people to nature and offer experiences and knowledge that foster environmental stewardship.

·         We are a strong voice in advocating for sound land use policies and watershed protection at the state, regional and local level.

·         We collect and manage science-based data that inform water protection measures and land use policies.

·         We participate in conservation partnerships that preserve key watershed properties; own and manage 10 wildlife preserves encompassing 450 acres open to the public; and hold 33 conservation easements protecting 880 acres in perpetuity.

RHA operates under the guidance of a volunteer Board of Trustees. There are currently fifteen professional staff members joined by an Americorps Watershed Ambassador, Naturalist Educators and interns. A large volunteer corps comprised of students and adults rounds out our workforce.
