About Us

Welcome to the Service Learning Program!

The Service Learning Program (SLP) embodies the University of Oregon's legacy of community service, active citizenship, and academic excellence. One of the oldest programs of its kind in the nation, the SLP has been promoting service- oriented experiential learning since its founding in 1969. While the needs of our global, national, and local communities have changed during the program's history, the SLP's dedication to service, scholarship, and community development has endured. Continually responding to the changing needs of its students and the communities in which these students learn and serve, the SLP develops and administers programming that maximizes the benefit to both student participants and community partners. The Service Learning Program also represents an exciting partnership between the Family Human Services Department in the College of Education and the Holden Leadership Center in the Division of Student Affairs. University staff, faculty and students come together to help create and administer unique service oriented learning activities in the community. This website is intended to highlight the many wonderful initiatives that are currently underway. We hope you enjoy what you find and look forward to your involvement in the future!

Warmest Regards,

John Duncan

Director, Holden Leadership Center
