  • Mission

The Learning Center, in the North Lawndale and Little Village area of Chicago, supports adults in their pursuit of an educational path to more confident and effective living. We believe that adults can learn, have a right to quality education, and that education is liberating.

    About Us

We currently offer free Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) with support from our City Colleges of Chicago partner, Malcolm X College. Independently, we offer Spanish Literacy and Computer Literacy classes as well as music and nutrition programs, monthly free produce deliveries, free health counseling through Saint Anthony Hospital, field trips around the city, and much more!

Under the supervision of professional educators and staff, our volunteer tutors help adult learners improve their literacy and math skills to obtain their High School Equivalency Certificate (commonly known as the GED Diploma). Volunteer, either in-person or online, as a reading, math, and/or ESL tutor. In-person tutoring takes place at The Learning Center (2153 S. Millard Avenue), a cozy converted rectory, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

For more information, speak directly with the Program Coordinator, Miriam Gonzalez, at 773-277-3111 or via email at mgonzalez@tlchchicago. org.
