  • About Us

Progressive Initiative for Cameroon (PICAM) is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization, independent of any government influence, political ideology, and religious persuasion. PICAM is dedicated to improving and transforming the Cameroonian society through innovative research, practice, and programs based on a collection of factors necessary to foster an overall improvement in human dignity. We believe that an effective civil society is the prerequisite to positive change and development in a country. At the core of our work therefore is to building a strong civil society in Cameroon.

PICAM’s mission is “to promote and support the principles of human rights, democracy, peace building, development, and humanitarian assistance in the Republic of Cameroon”.

“PICAM’s vision is of a Cameroon in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international conventions and national laws; a Cameroon in which democratic values are part of its culture; a Cameroon in which peace reigns and every person enjoys equal opportunity; a Cameroon in which individuals and communities are empowered to their full potentials; a Cameroon in which the poor, distressed, and underprivileged are taken care of”.

PICAM’s activities include research, advocacy, petition, and defense of the principles of human rights and democracy. We investigate, document, denounce, and publicize violations of human rights, undemocratic practices, and measures that threaten the peace. We engage with community based grassroots organizations in development projects and capacity building initiatives. PICAM also carry out projects designed to assist the most vulnerable in the society such as the poor, sick, disabled, and underprivileged.

PICAM offers internship and volunteer opportunities for youths. Youths are able to gain valuable knowledge about our programs while improving lives and contributing to the building of a stronger civil society in Cameroon.
