    About Us

    Our Parent Program The National Humane Education Society (NHES), Founded in 1948 , is a non-profit organization established to foster a sentiment of kindness to animals in children and adults. We are a national organization with more than 500,000 supporters. We provide humane education, animal rescue and relief services and through its affiliates, provide additional direct animal care.

    The Briggs Animal Adoption Center (BAAC) which is located on the NHES Campus, a short drive from Washington, D.C., is one of the finest animal care facilities in the country and welcomes thousands of visitors each year. BAAC is NHES’ flagship adoption facility and provides Comprehensive Services for cats and dogs which consist of:

    • Veterinary medical care, including mandatory spay and neuter before adoption
    • Socialization/rehabilitation
    • Canine obedience training
    • Pre-Adoption counseling; and
    • Delivery of all dogs to their new homes.

    BAAC has a humane holding capacity of approximately 205 animals (80 dogs and 125 cats). Since becoming operational, BAAC has placed thousands of companion dogs and cats in loving lifelong homes. Please see our website at www.baacs.org
