ForWords Literacy Lab
ForWords LIteracy Lab is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of 21st century literacy programs for first generation under-servedstudents who attend local middle and high schools. Many of our students are English Language Learners.
ForWords’ programs take place during the school day, after school, and during the summer. We provide rich literacy programs to insure that students develop communication literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking), critical thinking, and historical/cultural literacy. Our goal is for our students to graduate from high school, attend college/and/or secure meaningful employment and become productive members of our democracy.
At ForWords our curriculum approach is through project based learning, employing a variety of arts’ genres such as literature, theatre, visual and digital arts, and music to engage our students in learning. Our students create murals, videos, and publish their writing and artwork in books. ForWords’ students are involved in social justice issues and leadership activities.
