Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter
The Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS) provides housing and supportive services to homeless men and women. Located on Manhattan's Upper East Side, NCS was created in the early 1980's by civic and religious organizations and concerned individuals to respond to the growing problem of homelessness in the community. NCS serves over 1,000 men and women each year through a continuum of programs and services including outreach, a multi-service center, transitional and permanent supportive housing, and vocational and educational programs. A skilled and dedicated staff of social workers, psychiatrists, substance abuse counselors, and vocational and educational specialists, offer the services needed to help program participants overcome histories of mental illness, addiction, incarceration, domestic violence, and economic displacement.
