  • About Us

Created in 2011, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide a sanctuary for musical theatre writers to develop their musicals in the heart of the Hudson Valley and to promote the creation of this uniquely American art form. We offer musical theatre writing teams summer residencies in the Hudson Valley and readings in New York City to accelerate the development of their musicals. Musicals developed at Rhinebeck have subsequently been seen at The Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, Barrington Stage, The O'Neill Music Theatre Conference, NAMT's Festival of New Musicals, and on the West End. Writers have won major awards with work done in Rhinebeck, including the Jonathan Larson, Fred Ebb, and Kleban awards.
