Olaf Wieghorst Museum Foundation

  • Mission

The Wieghorst Museum preserves the work of Olaf Wieghorst, a great Danish-American twentieth century painter, and celebrates the heritage of the American West through his art.

    About Us

The Wieghorst Museum is an anchor institution in East County San Diego’s El Cajon Art and Entertainment District. The museum includes the artist’s gallery, exhibition space, the artist’s historic home and studio (a local historic landmark building) and a public southwest cactus/succulent garden.

The museum presents tours, workshops, classes, exhibitions and events. It is available as an event venue for business meetings, receptions, weddings, and institutional fundraising. We embrace the visual arts by showing the work of local artists and the memorabilia of the American West.

At the Wieghorst Museum we strive to provide a quality museum experience. We want a meaningful interaction with each museum guest. We are a free museum. We want everyone regardless of ability to pay to have access to a museum experience.

    Our Values include:

Storytelling. We tell stories: Olaf's story; art stories; stories about the objects in the museum.

Reaching children. We provide enriching experiences to El Cajon and East County children.

All things Olaf. We are a clearing house for information about Olaf and his art.

Western Heritage. We promote Western Heritage themes, values and culture.

Our motto is: "Celebrating the heritage of the American West through the art of Olaf Wieghorst."
