About Us

African Services Committee (ASC) was founded in 1981 by Ethiopian refugees with the aim of providing refugee resettlement assistance along with employment and housing placements and referrals to area service providers.

Over the past 24 years, ASC has grown to become a multi-service agency dedicated to improving the well-being and self-sufficiency of New York City's African and Caribbean immigrant/refugee communities. We provide direct health, housing, social and legal services to over 10,000 clients each year with particular emphasis on HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and support. Our direct services are integrated with local, national and global advocacy efforts addressing such issues as immigrant rights, HIV treatment access, and HIV stigma and discrimination. We also operate three community centers in Ethiopia, providing access to free HIV testing, care and support to thousands of people each year.
