  • About Us

    The Sarteneja Alliance for Conservation and Development (SACD) is a community-oriented organization that promotes the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources for the benefit of present and future generations. SACD is located in Sarteneja, a traditional fishing village situated in the Corozal District, in the north east of Belize, and is the co-management partner, for the Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (CBWS), one of Belize’s largest marine protected areas, and part of Mesoamerica’s largest priority, trans-boundary estuarine system, in partnership with the Forestry Department.The organization is small – but growing, and is composed of a committed, and local, community-based team, and conducts education & outreach, biodiversity monitoring, surveillance & enforcement and alternative livelihood projects in CBWS and stakeholder communities.

    Mission

    The Sarteneja Alliance for Conservation and Development is a community-orientated, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of its stakeholder communities through strengthening mechanisms for collaboration, support and community engagement, and the promotion of the sustainable use of the Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
