About Us

Cancer rates among people of parenting age are increasing — but few resources exist to support their unique needs. Operation Ohana was started by two mothers and cancer survivors to address the gap they saw during their own personal treatment journeys in supporting young parents and families going through cancer

Operation Ohana provides young cancer survivors who are parents of small children with a safe space for individual and familial healing, recovery, and reconnection. The organization supports young parents diagnosed with cancer and their families, through:

1) Family-oriented retreats that create a safe and relaxing space for both individual and familial healing, recovery, and reconnection beyond cancer treatment;

2) Creating a community for young parents with cancer by matching survivors with similar diagnoses and facilitating meet-ups in family friendly venues, as well as group connections on social media;

3) Helping families access support services including meals, childcare, cleaning, etc.; and

4) Children’s therapy support, including online resources, therapist referrals, and a group therapy program for young children whose parents are cancer survivors.

Operation Ohana focuses on young parents 45 and under with children under 6 at the time of diagnosis, including those diagnosed during pregnancy.
